About This Game

My first game created with the Tiniest2D Game Engine. Created as part of the as far as I'm aware unnamed Tiniest2D Early Adopter (release a game in 30 days and the engine is yours forever) Game Jam.

It's a simple bird flight game where you have to fly through the gaps in brick walls, very much inspired by the famous flappy bird. I chose to make this style game as a first project, because the Tiniest2D game engine has flappy bird clone as one of its project file starter templates and I figured it would be easier to learn the scripting language if I had a working example to start from.

I created all the assets, and then added code to move the background, and tree, tweaked the physics so that the bird is easier to control, but the gaps are a bit more difficult, made the score update logic more responsive, and added a high score function that doesn't save your score, but does track it between runs. As well as a few more minor improvements.

The end result is nothing ground breaking, but is a nice simple arcade style game, that is amusing to play. I created this mostly as a learning exercise so I'm releasing it for free.

Developer's Experience

I saw Guilherme Teres's Youtube video "I made the TINIEST 2D Game Engine POSSIBLE! - and it's FREE!" and thought that Tiniest2D looked interesting. I've always been interested in game dev, but tend to get bogged down in the pre-production planning phase, and never get anything finished. So since there was an interesting engine being offered as a reward for actually finishing I project, I decided that now was the time to challenge myself, and actually release a game.

I had a more ambitious game planned for the as of yet un-named 30 day game jam, but I decided to make this game first, because actually releasing games has always been what I've struggled with, and the Tiniest2D game engine came with a functioning Flappy Bird clone starter project I could use as a base line to improve on so I wouldn't get distracted in dreaming up the perfect game and then never getting around to finishing it.

Now that I have some experience with the engine I hope to go on to create the other game I originally planned on and hopefully release it as well.

How Uniday Helped

Created Tiniest2D game engine, and made a Youtube video about it, announcing that if I finished and released a game with Tiniest2D within 30 days the Engine would be mine to keep forever. Basically they provided both the tools and motivation I needed to succeed.
