The Journey of Making This Game

Neon Escape was exciting but challenging because I only had about one week to make it. I went through many rewrites while exploring different ideas, including exploration, stealth, puzzles, an overworld, and boss encounters. Each direction had potential, but the short deadline forced me to decide what was essential and what needed to be saved for later.

As a solo developer, I built and tested the movement, enemy behavior, collision, line of sight, level progression, and win-and-lose conditions myself. Some features took several attempts to work correctly, especially enemy detection and navigating the maze without getting stuck.

The biggest lesson I learned was the importance of scope and iteration. Although the rewrites were frustrating at times, they helped me discover the strongest version of the game. I am most proud that I created a playable experience with its own neon style, personality, and arcade-inspired identity in only about a week.

How Uniday Studio Helped

Uniday Studio gave me the structure and resources I needed to turn my idea into a playable game. The Tiny2D tutorials, examples, and API documentation helped me understand how to build important systems such as movement, collision, enemy behavior, level transitions, and visual effects.

Because I was working alone and had only about a week, having clear resources available made a major difference. Whenever I ran into a problem, I could review the documentation, study examples, test a solution, and continue improving the game instead of becoming completely stuck.

Uniday Studio also encouraged me to control the scope of my project and focus on creating a complete experience. I went through several rewrites and different ideas before settling on the final cat-and-mouse maze concept. The available tools made it possible for me to experiment quickly and learn through iteration.

Most importantly, Uniday Studio gave me the opportunity and motivation to complete and share a game of my own. The experience improved my confidence in programming, game design, problem-solving, and working independently as a solo developer.
